Join CAVAL member colleagues for a Library Discovery Tour of Geelong!

Are you curious to see how spaces are designed to foster learning and community? Do you want to visit a public, a TAFE, and an academic library all within walking distance in one day? This special CAVAL event offers an exclusive insight into three regional libraries, each with its unique character and offerings.

Between 10am and 3.30pm on 19 June 2024 we will visit the below libraries with their individual highlights:

This tour is for you if you are interested in the below:

  • Space exploration: Observe firsthand how libraries are evolving their physical environment to accommodate diverse needs and activities.
  • Service showcase: Uncover the vast array of services offered by the libraries and explore how they are delivered.
  • Engagement and inclusivity in action: Learn how libraries strive to be inclusive of their communities.
  • Special collections unveiled: Get a glimpse of the hidden treasures of the Geelong Library’s Heritage Centre.
  • Network with fellow library staff: Connect with other attendees throughout the tour and over a catered lunch. Discuss your observations, exchange ideas, and discover new ways to utilise our valuable resources.
  • Ask the experts: Have burning questions about library operations or specific services? This tour provides a fantastic opportunity to chat with library staff who are happy to share their expertise and answer your questions.

Transport. All attendees are expected to make their own way to Geelong for the study tour. All libraries we are visiting are within 10-minutes walking distance from the Geelong Train Station. Access the train timetable from Melbourne here. While there is limited on-street parking around each library, further alternatives for parking can be found here. Westfield Geelong has the largest number of parking spaces.
